Suffocating hate

The tragedy at Charlottesville, Va is an example of what not to do.

The First amendment guarantees the right to freedom of expression no matter how “good” or “bad” it seems to us. The hatemongers are covered by that right. They got a legal permit to rally and march. They do this for attention and publicity.

Counter marching and clashing with them turned what could have been a small rally in a small town hardly noticed in the media into worldwide attention. This will only inspire other hatemongers.

Donald Trump’s success was built on this kind of thing. He used a profusion of lies and stupid comments to get near unlimited free publicity by the media. There are too many with more emotion and hate than reason. He scooped them up for victory.

We cannot have government in the streets. The best way to deal with evil is to suffocate it with minimal attention and fight it in government.
